ASDA SIM-only deals
ASDA Mobile primarily offers affordable SIM-only deals, which the provider refers to as bundles. They are designed for users who already have a phone and need a cheap airtime plan. The provider’s SIM-only plans offer a complete airtime package, with unlimited minutes and unlimited texts within the UK and your choice of data allowance. Data allowances start at 3GB and go all the way up to unlimited data.

All bundles expire after 30 days, though you can top up at any point. ASDA plans aren’t recurring, so you need to let the mobile network know if you want it to auto-renew. The easiest way to change this setting is through your online account. Choose from the following standard or unlimited SIM-only plans:

Pay-monthly deals
ASDA Mobile doesn’t offer pay-monthly contracts. You can, however, buy a SIM-free mobile phone from the supplier, although you will have to pay in full up front. If you’re looking for a pay-monthly handset deal, take a look at other major network providers such as Vodafone, EE, O2 and Three.
Pay as you go
Pay as you go (PAYG) is the best option for casual mobile phone users as it only requires you to pay for what you use. PAYG helps you stay in control of how much you spend, so you won’t waste any money. If you only use your phone for texting and calling and don’t require data, you can opt for the “Talk and Text” plan. This plan offers unlimited minutes and texts for just £4 a month.
Even if you’re on a PAYG plan, you can add a bundle to your SIM card at any point. If you’re an avid texter, a SIM-only plan may still offer better value for money as there’s no limit on calls and texts and you get more data for your money. Here are the provider’s PAYG rates:
Calls allowance |
Texts allowance |
Data allowance |
4p per minute |
4p per text |
4p per MB |
*These allowances cover calls to UK mobiles/landlines and texts of no more than 160 characters. There’s a tariff of 25p to send an MMS.
How do I order my free PAYG SIM card?
- Order your SIM card on the ASDA Mobile website.
- Activate it online via your online account.
- Transfer your phone number by following ASDA’s step-by-step instructions.
- Place your SIM card in your device and start using your bundle.
SIM-free phones
ASDA has a good selection of SIM-free phones that are unlocked, meaning they can be used on any mobile network. This means you get to choose whether you sign up to a SIM plan with ASDA or opt for a new network. If you already have an airtime plan, just place your SIM card in any SIM-free phone.
The advantage of a SIM-free handset is that you’re not bound to a long-term phone contract, so it’s essentially commitment-free. If you can’t afford to pay for a phone in one payment, consider getting a pay-monthly handset deal. ASDA doesn’t offer phone contracts, so we recommend taking a look at other major UK networks, such as Vodafone, EE, O2 or Three. Giffgaff, iD Mobile, Plusnet and Virgin Mobile also offer affordable alternatives.
ASDA Mobile app
The provider’s free mobile app helps you manage your online mobile account. You can download it via the App Store or on Google Play. Use it to:
- Monitor your data usage.
- Buy monthly bundles and data add-ons.
- See your transaction history.
ASDA Mobile network coverage
ASDA Mobile runs on the Vodafone network, which offers 3G, 4G and 5G coverage to its customers depending on where they are. The 3G and 4G provides 99 per cent population coverage across the UK – use a postcode checker to find out what mobile phone coverage is like in your area. You can access 5G data speeds at no extra cost if you have a 5G-ready device and are in an area that has coverage. At present, 5G is currently available in 138 towns and cities across the UK.
4G coverage
This is how Vodafone speeds compare to its competitors’ 4G networks:
Network |
Average download speed |
Average upload speed |
EE |
40Mbps |
9.7Mbps |
Three |
25.2Mbps |
6.3Mbps |
Vodafone |
21.6Mbps |
7.4Mbps |
O2 |
17.1Mbps |
5.4Mbps |
5G coverage
This is how Vodafone compares with its competitors’ 5G speeds, according to Opensignal:
Network |
Average download speed |
Average upload speed |
EE |
140Mbps |
11Mbps |
O2 |
128.9Mbps |
9Mbps |
Three |
115.9Mbps |
8.2Mbps |
Vodafone |
103.1Mbps |
9.4Mbps |
ASDA used to use the EE network but recently switched to Vodafone. While EE supplies faster speeds, you still get excellent service with ASDA Mobile. You might find that a particular provider has stronger coverage where you live, however, so it’s always worth checking which performs best using a postcode checker.
ASDA Mobile perks and add-ons
ASDA’s main focus is on affordable mobile deals, so its bundles don’t come with a rewards scheme, similar to Priority or VeryMe Rewards. Occasionally, you can enjoy discounts and special offers on SIM-only deals. All special offers are displayed on the provider’s website, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for this. Unlike Tesco Mobile, ASDA Mobile doesn’t offer any rewards for those who shop at its stores.
Data add-ons
If you’re running low on data, you can purchase an add-on to boost your data allowance. You can get these through your online account.

Spend cap
Put a limit on how much you can spend outside of your plan. You can set it to anything up to £50, so you don’t have to worry about not having data when you’re running low. Set it to £0 if you want to prevent any charges outside of your plan.
How to switch to ASDA Mobile
Firstly, let your current provider know that you’re switching. Once you’ve received your new SIM card from ASDA Mobile, you will need to:
- Request a PAC or STAC code. If you want to keep the same number, text ‘PAC’ to 65075. If you want a new phone number, text STAC to 75075. You will receive a code via message, which will expire after 30 days.
- Activate your SIM. Insert your new SIM into your phone and register your online account. You can then link your number to your account.
- Go to ‘My profile’ and click ‘Transferring number’ or ‘New number’. Enter your PAC or STAC code in the box and press enter.
- Start using your new ASDA Mobile SIM plan.
ASDA Mobile review
ASDA Mobile is a network whose emphasis is on flexible, affordable SIM-only deals, with competitive 4G and 5G speeds via the Vodafone network. Customers also receive high-quality customer service for the price they pay. In fact, ASDA is one of the few budget-friendly providers to offer over-the-phone customer service.
The provider’s Trustpilot reviews are mixed, with customers stating that it offers good value for money and that switching is hassle-free. It’s unfortunate that ASDA doesn’t offer any incentives or extras, but if you’re joining it’s most likely because of its affordability. If this is your main consideration and you also value old-fashioned customer service, ASDA may be the provider for you.
