BT and EE are part of the same group, which has allowed BT Mobile to streamline its offer of SIM-only deals. New customers can no longer choose a mobile plan that includes a handset specifically from BT, but you will be able to buy one from EE.
Existing BT Mobile customers can find out about its handset upgrade options by calling 0800 012 1335.
Similarly, although BT Mobile doesn’t offer a pay-as-you-go option, you can find plans at EE instead. Despite this, BT Mobile still offers a good selection of mid-range SIM-only plans, provides excellent UK coverage, EU roaming and exclusive discounts and offers for BT broadband customers.
BT only offers SIM-only deals, and these are available as 12-month or 24-month contracts. There’s also a family SIM range that gives you a discount for every SIM added to the plan.
BT’s data plans are offered in a range of increments so whether you’re a light, medium or heavy mobile internet user, there should be a reasonably priced plan for you. Heavier data subscribers can also enjoy the BT Sport app at no extra cost (valued at an estimated £10 per month).
All plans come with unlimited minutes and unlimited text messages.

All BT Mobile 12-month data packages are available with a family SIM plan (4GB up to 100GB). You can add up to five SIM cards with each additional SIM giving you a 20% discount –a huge money-saver. Data allowance is per person, so if you choose the 100GB plan, everyone receives 100GB rather than the allowance being shared.
As with all other BT Mobile plans, all family SIM-only deals come with unlimited calls and unlimited texts. BT Sport is available as an extra bonus for 25GB data plans and over.
BT family plans are flexible and you can add or remove SIM cards whenever you need. Plus, you can control all your settings from one account, making family mobile phone management simple and quick.

BT Mobile does offer unlimited mobile call minutes if you sign up to BT Halo, but it is exclusive to this plan.
BT’s focus is on providing customers with all-round excellent mobile phone service, but add-ons are slightly thin. However BT Mobile deals do include:
Like other well-known mobile providers like Plusnet and Giffgaff, BT Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). This simply means that BT does not own its own mobile network but rents space from an operator that does, in this instance EE. Nevertheless, EE is part of the BT group so the two firms are subsidiaries under the same umbrella.
Piggybacking off EE allows BT Mobile customers to enjoy one of the most extensive 4G networks in the UK, covering 99% of the country. Not only that, according to independent mobile standards assessor Opensignal, EE tops the list for mobile phone coverage.
Overall, 5G coverage is also good with EE – named joint winner along with O2 and Vodafone for overall 5G video, games and voice app experiences in Opensignal’s 2022 mobile awards.
BT’s Roam Like at Home programme means you can use your UK minutes, texts and data allowances in 47 other countries, including the vast majority of Europe.
As well as Roam Like at Home, BT provides you with 500MB of data for £6 a day under its travel-data pass scheme. This offer applies if you’re travelling outside of the European Union (EU) and includes countries such as Australia, Canada, the USA, China, New Zealand and Thailand.
Technically, the travel-data pass isn’t an add-on, and the service will automatically start if you use data in any of the supported countries. It will then automatically end when you leave or stop using data.
With a BT SIM-only deal, you can also use WiFi calling and tether devices to your smartphone.
WiFi calling simply means you can make calls and send texts using WiFi when you’re connected to any WiFi network (and not just a BT broadband service). Tethering means you can connect your smartphone to other devices (such as a tablet) in order to get online.
You can buy a BT Mobile SIM on either 12-month or 24-month contracts, which include unlimited minutes and texts. However, new customers won’t be able to buy a handset and SIM package directly from BT, but you can buy one from EE instead.
The 30-day money-back offer means you can try a SIM or family SIM plan with the right to cancel the deal and get a refund within 30 days of signing up. Simply contact BT and it will give you your money back (you’ll be charged for any services used that are outside of your plan).
Yes, you’ll get excellent 4G coverage spanning 99% of the UK, as well as a good 5G network providing top-rated gaming and video experiences according to independent data.
Instead of a SIM that you insert, an eSIM is one that is integrated in your smartphone. These are relatively new and are not something that BT offers to non-business users. The only UK providers offering eSIMs are EE, O2 and Vodafone.
