EE Broadband offers ADSL, and superfast fibre broadband deals with no limit on downloads, on 18-month or 24-month contracts. You can also combine your EE broadband deal with a pay-monthly mobile plan, to receive a cheaper deal on both services.
All EE Broadband deals require customers to have a phone line installed and pay a monthly fee for line rental because the provider offers broadband through the BT Openreach network, as is the case with most broadband providers. Virgin Media is one of the only providers offering standalone broadband without the need for a fixed phone line. The upside is that the cost of line rental is included in the monthly price of each broadband package, so you won’t have to pay an extra fee.
Having a phone line means that you can add a home phone plan to your broadband service. Either choose to pay as you call, a service automatically available with all EE Broadband packages, or add on a home phone plan with inclusive minutes at certain times of the day.
EE offers a range of broadband connections with average speeds that sit anywhere between 10Mbps and 900Mbps, so there’s a package for everyone.
EE Broadband is split into four home broadband deals ranging from the slowest speeds to highest. With an increase in speed also comes an increase in price, so it’s important to consider both your broadband requirements and your monthly budget. It’s also important to note that from the 31st March 2024, EE prices will increase by CPI +3.9%.
Below, you’ll find our quick and easy run down of EE broadband deals:
EE Broadband’s standard ADSL package offers average download speeds of 10Mbps, making it the slowest Wi-Fi connection available. ADSL is slower than fibre because it uses copper cables which don’t transfer data as quickly as fibre-optic cables. While ADSL is known as standard broadband, fibre broadband is becoming more common as it guarantees quicker speeds and a more reliable connection. That said, standard broadband is apt for a small household, working quite efficiently for one device with low demands.
EE Fibre broadband offers an FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) connection with entry-level fibre broadband speeds. This plan provides average speeds of 36Mbps, using a combination of copper and fibre-optic cables for a faster, more reliable connection than ADSL. This EE package is suitable for small households, with up to seven devices depending on what you’re using the internet for.
EE Fibre Plus broadband is also an FTTC deal, but is more expensive than its entry-level fibre broadband package, providing faster average speeds of 67Mbps. This package is suitable for large families or communal living as it can support up to 12 devices depending on usage habits.
EE Broadband’s Fibre Max package is an FTTP (fibre to the premises) broadband offer, also known as full fibre. EE offers the following Fibre Max plans:
Fibre Max broadband deals are not cheap, but they do offer ultrafast internet, which allows you to stream unlimited content in 4K and is ideal for gamers and film lovers. If you have a big family with lots of devices that require an internet connection, you might also want to consider getting a Fibre Max package. This will mean you won’t ever have to worry about your internet slowing down or stalling when multiple people are connected at once.
EE Broadband also offers mobile broadband using its 4G and 5G networks, which supply internet wirelessly in the same way it would to your mobile. For this reason, its availability will depend on mobile network coverage where you live. It works similarly to an EE Mobile’s pay-monthly mobile SIM, supplying broadband to the devices of your choice through a dongle or SIM card.
Its 4GEE WiFi is different to home broadband in that it doesn’t need to be installed, as it doesn’t require a fixed line to get you connected. You just need a SIM card, which connects the 4G WiFi router to the provider’s 4G or 5G network, depending on the availability of each where you live and the type of mobile WiFi router you have. There are four EE mobile broadband deals to choose from:
The 4GEE Home Router supplies your home with EE 4G using a mobile SIM, which you can then access on any device, including your mobile phone, PC, laptop, smart TV and consoles. Mobile broadband may be more convenient for many users than home broadband because the 4GEE Wi-Fi Router can be purchased on a flexible 30-day rolling contract.
Mobile broadband is ideal if you want a temporary Wi-Fi connection while you’re waiting for home broadband to be installed or if you’re only staying somewhere temporarily and can’t commit to a 24-month contract. Here are the 4GEE data plans available on one-month or 18-month contracts:
EE’s 4GEE Wi-Fi mini provides you with 4G internet while you’re on the go and keeps you connected if your data runs out. You can watch TV, play music, game online and stream movies inside and outside of the house.
Also, 4GEE provides an average speed of 31Mbps and you’ll get an additional 5GB of mobile data every month at no extra cost. There are several different data allowances to choose from on one-month or 24-month contracts. These include:
The 5GEE Home Router provides a 5G broadband connection using EE’s 5G network, delivering an average speed of 150Mbps to those lucky enough to live in an area with 5G coverage
The 5GEE Wi-Fi Router can connect up to 64 devices at once, so you can keep all the family connected within a range of 30 metres. In addition, 5GEE pay-monthly plans offer the following allowances on one-month or 18-months contracts:
A 5GEE Wi-Fi plan gives you access to EE’s 5G network in selected public areas, which currently includes more than 110 cities and towns across the UK. Choose from a one-month or 24-month contract, with the choice of one of the following data allowances:
EE broadband deals come with Norton Security Premium, which offers internet security for up to 10 devices. Norton Antivirus identifies malware, and viruses and protects your devices from email spam, phishing and spyware.
While Norton Virus is included, it’s only free for the first year. This is still a big saving because it usually costs an additional £7.99 a month. Having antivirus protection on your devices is not mandatory, but it is the most efficient way to protect you and your family when using the internet.
Fibre Max plans include Apple TV 4K, Freeview, and on-demand and catch-up TV free of charge, so you can watch your favourite films and series from any device.
EE offers more TV add-ons for an extra monthly charge. These include BT Sport and Sky channels. As an EE customer, you’ll get a cheaper deal on these TV add-ons than non EE customers.
EE’s customer service team is available seven days a week to help customers resolve issues. You can also seek help via the My EE app or by messaging the EE community page, where customers can exchange advice 24 hours a day.
EE lets you add mobile gaming with the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for £10 a month. It offers more than 100 games for your phone, tablet, Xbox, or PC.
To find out whether EE fibre broadband is available in your area, use an online postcode checker. If it’s available, it could still be that only selected broadband packages are available to you. In some cases, customers can only access EE’s standard broadband connection.
Yes, EE fibre broadband includes line rental because it connects you to the BT Openreach network, which requires a phone line to deliver broadband.
If you’re looking for broadband without line rental, you might want to consider EE mobile broadband, which runs on mobile data using the provider’s mobile network. In this case, the router only requires a mobile SIM to get you connected.
Mobile broadband works with a router that uses a SIM card to provide an internet connection. This way, you don’t need a phone line installed to get your home connected.
The 4GEE Home Wi-Fi has an average speed of 30Mbps, which is equivalent to the speed of an entry-level fibre broadband package. And 5GEE Home is much faster, with an average speed of 150Mbps, equivalent to the speed of a Fibre Max broadband plan.
An internet connection can be slowed down by objects and features that obstruct the connection between the Wi-Fi router and your device, including stone walls, doors and furniture.
You can speed up your EE broadband by connecting your device to the router via an ethernet cable, which allows you to avoid all obstructions. This is the only way to get the fastest speeds possible and make the most out of your broadband deal.
To get EE’s ADSL and fibre packages you will need to pay line rental as you will be connected to the BT Openreach network, though you’re under no obligation to get a landline phone. Virgin Media is one of the few fibre broadband providers that doesn’t require a line rental. If you want to avoid paying line rental, you should also consider one of EE’s mobile broadband deals.
In most cases, an engineer won’t need to visit your home, although if you sign up to EE Fibre Max, an engineer will likely need to visit to install all the necessary fibre cables. Mobile broadband also doesn’t require an engineer to set up.
If an engineer doesn’t need to visit your home and you’re able to install the box yourself, there won’t be any installation costs to pay. If an engineer is required to install your router, there will probably be a one-off set-up payment. Expect to wait seven to 14 days for an engineer to visit.
