Monthly phone contracts

Talkmobile offers some great deals on budget phones. While it doesn’t offer the most high-end iPhones and Samsung models, all the phone models it does sell are smartphones  that have been tried and tested and have good reviews.

Talkmobile only displays a small selection of its monthly phone contracts online, so you may need to give the company a call or chat online to ask if it has the smartphone you want. You will also have to inquire about the contract length because it varies from phone to phone. In most cases, they are long-term contracts, anywhere from 24 to 36 months.

All of Talkmobile’s offers are affordable, with prices starting at £10 a month. Unlike many mobile providers, it doesn’t charge any upfront costs. Its best-selling mobile phones include:

SIM-only deals

Talkmobile SIM-only deals are affordable and can be ordered online at any time. All Talkmobile SIMs come with unlimited minutes and unlimited calls, and can be bought on a 30-day or 12-month contract.

SIM card deals are ideal if you already have an unlocked phone and you don’t want to upgrade, as they allow you to save on the expense of getting a new device.

30-day SIM

The above deals are 30-day contracts, allowing users the flexibility to change their data allowance on a monthly basis and offering the freedom to cancel a plan at any time. That said, rolling contracts renew automatically unless cancelled, in which case there’s a 30-day notice period.

12-month SIM

Talkmobile SIMs are also available as 12-month contracts if you go directly through the provider’s website, though there is little need to do this as a 30-day SIM can simply be automatically renewed a dozen times at a cheaper rate. Here is how much each allowance would cost you at the time of writing:

Network coverage

Talkmobile piggybacks off the Vodafone network, as it is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). This means that the provider uses the physical infrastructure maintained by Vodafone to provide its service. The provider does not, however, have access to Vodafone’s 5G network, so it doesn’t offer 5G coverage. Even if you have a 5G-ready phone, you won’t be able to access these speeds with a Talkmobile SIM card, but your phone will work fine as you will be automatically connected to Vodafone’s 4G infrastructure instead.

Vodafone’s average 4G speeds are competitive, with an average download speed of 22Mbps  (megabits per second) and an average upload speed of 8Mbps. Vodafone 4G exceeds the speeds offered by O2, but is not as fast as Three, EE or MVNOs using these networks, such as Plusnet, BT, SMARTY, iD Mobile, or FreedomPop. Roam with Talkmobile

Talkmobile has divided roaming into six country categories, all of which have different price plans, though it does offer some inclusive roaming. Inclusive roaming essentially lets you use your unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and data allowance as usual in certain destinations abroad.

Countries in Zone 1 are included in all Talkmobile plans, and include the following EU destinations:

Zone 2 countries are also included in all plans and are, like Zone 1 countries, subject to a fair use policy of 15GB. After using 15GB, you’ll be charged 6p per MB of data you use. Zone 2 destinations include:

If you want to roam in one of Zones 3-6, you’ll need to pay extra. The higher the zone number, the more you’ll have to pay per call, text or MB of data.
